Help Families Survive: More Government Support for Workers and People on Benefits During the Cost of Living Crisis
Across the United Kingdom, millions of people are struggling to keep up with the rising cost of living. Working families, carers, pensioners, disabled people, and those receiving benefits are facing impossible choices between heating their homes, paying rent, buying food, and covering everyday essentials.
Many workers are employed full-time yet still rely on support to make ends meet. At the same time, people receiving benefits are seeing household bills rise faster than financial support available to them. Energy costs, food prices, housing costs, transport expenses, and everyday essentials continue to put enormous pressure on people across our communities.
We call on the UK Government to introduce stronger and long-term cost of living support measures for both working households and people receiving benefits, including:
- Increased financial support for low-income households
- A review and increase of benefit payments to better reflect real living costs
- Additional targeted cost of living payments during periods of high inflation
- Greater support for energy bills and housing costs
- Measures to help workers on low and middle incomes cope with rising prices
- Expanded support for families, carers, disabled people and vulnerable groups
People should not have to choose between heating and eating. Hard-working families and vulnerable people deserve support that reflects today’s economic reality.
We urge the Government to take immediate action to protect households and ensure nobody is left behind during the cost of living crisis.
